Support – at a distance
We have been peers, housemates, colleagues, but are foremost (and most importantly) close friends and part of each other’s support systems.
The routines we were often reliant upon, pre-COVID, have been eradicated. As is our reliance on physically being there for one and other. We can no longer offer our homes as places of solitude when things are a bit much, nor meet for a weekend, and explore a new place together. A simple train-journey to be together seems like a distant memory.
However, with an ambition to still support one and other, we have forged new methods of providing comfort and joy. We call, we video chat, we watch films remotely, we send links to articles we enjoyed, and songs we love. We recognise when days are hard, and talk it through. We laugh when days are good, and talk it through.
We have learnt to adapt and, through compassion and humour, bridge the 200 mile gap that sits between us.
