If illness or disability is making it hard to find work, keep your job, participate socially or stay financially afloat, we can offer much-needed advice and sometimes monetary assistance.
If you have complex needs arising from your health conditions or disability, we can make a referral to a provider of specialist occupational therapy services. They can make an assessment and advise you on equipment and adaptations, suitability of housing and the best ways to stay safe and independent – all in complete confidentiality.
Finding the right care – either in your home or a residential setting – can be stressful and the first step should be to request an assessment from your council’s social services department
However, our Welfare team can also offer you advice and support, point you in the direction of helpful Age UK resources and sometimes help with care costs, depending on your financial assessment.
In some cases, we can provide one-off grants to pay for small items of equipment to make your life easier (for instance, grab rails and ‘rise and recline’ chairs), or adaptions to improve safety and accessibility.
These grants require a recommendation from an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist, as well as proof that this support is not available through the NHS or Local Authority.
If you have a recent illness or injury that’s making it hard for you to do everyday activities – including work – we can sometimes provide help with short-term physical therapy costs, such as physiotherapy.
Ideally, this help should be recommended by a specialist or health professional, and unavailable on the NHS.
We can help you understand what benefits you’re entitled to and signpost you to specialist organisations for more support.
If you would like help with claiming welfare benefits or want to find out more about whether you might be entitled, please contact our welfare team on 020 3918 8588.
We are sometimes able to provide help with the cost of travelling to regular medical appointments, hospital car parking and other expensive essentials – please give us a call to find out more.
