Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day and Architects Benevolent Society, together with Recite Me, are proud to raise awareness of the importance of creating a digital world where every person can access online content without barriers.
The World Health Organisation’s (WHO) World Report on Disability found that 15% of the world’s population are living with a disability. Of this number, it is estimated that 1 in 5 people do not have access to the assistive technology they need.
The pandemic has only highlighted the extent of the lack of access of websites for users with auditory and visual disabilities, the elderly and other at-risk groups.
Every online user deserves a first-rate digital experience with the ability to access web-based services, content and other digital products with the same successful outcome as those without disabilities.
ABS is committed to achieving this goal and has started by joining with Recite Me to create an inclusive website enabling everyone ease of access to our online information and resources.
When visiting our website people can use our accessibility and language support tools to create a unique and customisable user experience. Support options include text to speech functionality, fully customisable styling features, reading aids, and a translation tool with over 100 languages, including 35 texts to speech voices and many other features.
To explore the Recite Me tool bar on our website you can click the Accessibility button located in the top right of our homepage. The Recite Me menu bar will then appear allowing you to customise your ABS website experience.
