Participants have an hour to draw around a set theme released on the day. The top three most imaginative and creative works are selected by a fantastic panel of judges – this year LionHeart, Amy Francis-Smith and David Gilhooley – and prizes are awarded. A selection of sketches are also chosen to feature in our celebrated #Time2Sketch colouring book.

#Time2Sketch is intended as a wellbeing event to ensure participants can step away from their desks for an hour. We encourage practices and organisations to create the space for participants to come together and sketch together. Sketching can be a powerful tool to lower stress levels and promote mental relaxation.
This year, all proceeds raised will go directly to our Cost of Living Crisis Appeal to help those in need within the architectural community. The rise in energy bills, food costs and inflation has resulted in more people struggling than before, through no fault of their own. We’re doing everything we can to ensure people receive essential support, but we need your help.
Find Out MoreThis year’s competition judges are: LionHeart, Amy Francis-Smith and David Gilhooley.
LionHeart
LionHeart is an Award Winning Poet, BBC Radio London Presenter, and an honorary fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) for his contribution to architecture. Named one of the first Associate Artists of The Royal Albert Hall in over 150 years.
I’m really excited to see the imagination, and creative courage of these sketches! Things that make me go WOWWWW or Oooooo are always a win in my eyes, so give it your best!
Amy Francis-Smith
Amy Francis-Smith is a multi-award winning Disabled Architect, Inclusive Designer and Consultant on accessible architecture, Project Lead at Pinnegar Hayward Design and the outgoing Vice-President of the Birmingham Architectural Association. As an ambassador for ABS, Amy helped form a fundraising partnership with the BAA and continues to champion their great work, having benefited personally herself from their support.
#Time2Sketch is the perfect chance to get back into being creative for creativity’s sake! I’m more interested in passion and energy than technical craft, so that blows the competition wide open!
David Gilhooley
Judge, #Time2Sketch designer and Senior Technician David Gilhooley holds the World Record for Sketch Portraits, recently won Channel 5’s ‘Watercolour Challenge’ Yorkshire Region and is a Judge for the Denis Mason Jones Award for Architectural Sketching, having won it several times.
