ABS Chicken Run 2024: Event Wrap-Up 

We’re thrilled to announce that The ABS Chicken Run 2024, hosted by Eric Parry Architects, was an incredible success! On Saturday, May 18th the streets of London were alive with the spirit of community, support, and sheer fun as hundreds of participants gathered for our annual 5km fun run. 

The ABS Chicken Run takes a community of people to help organise and to ensure it is a great day – we are truly grateful to the team at Eric Parry Architects, who worked tirelessly in the build-up and on the day to create such a fantastic event. We are also grateful to Sharon Jones at Sherwin Williams (who also volunteered to marshal!), Molteni and Co and all our generous raffle prize donators who gave wonderful prizes. 

A Day to Remember

The atmosphere was electric as runners, volunteer marshals, and supporters came together to “fly the coop” and take part in this egg-straordinary event. With the run race taking flight at 10 am, the vibrant streets of London provided a picturesque backdrop for our enthusiastic participants, whether they were lone chickens or part of dynamic teams. 

Celebrating Community and Mental Health Awareness

This year’s Chicken Run was particularly special as it coincided with the culmination of Mental Health Awareness Week. The event was a perfect blend of physical exercise, teamwork, and joy, all aimed at promoting collective mental well-being. It was heartwarming to see everyone uniting for a cause that truly matters, highlighting the importance of nurturing our mental health. 

Feathering the Nest for a Fantastic Cause 

Our runners didn’t just hit the streets; they soared! The goal was not only to enjoy the thrill of the run but to raise funds and awareness for ABS Welfare Support Services. Thanks to the incredible efforts of our participants, we managed to top last year’s fundraising, collecting nearly £17,000! This tremendous achievement is a testament to the generosity and dedication of our community. 

Carolin Göhler, President-Elect of the Landscape Institute, said: “It was my first time at the annual Chicken Run and I loved the enthusiasm and joy of all those taking part in the fun run. It is so important to highlight the work of ABS, share stories, and to know that the ABS is helping so many of us in times of need, including us landscape professionals.“

Volunteer Marshals: The Unsung Heroes 

A special shoutout goes to our wonderful volunteer marshals who ensured the safety and smooth navigation of our runners along the 5km route. Donning their high-visibility gear, these vital volunteers guided and cheered on participants, embodying the true spirit of teamwork and support. 

“Marshalling at the Chicken Run was a treat as you get the best views of the runners in their brilliant costumes. This is a truly uplifting event as you know that ABS provides great support for those in the architectural community who need a shoulder to lean on when times are difficult”

After the run race, everyone flocked to the lively afterparty, where delicious food, refreshing drinks, and an exciting raffle awaited. It was a time to celebrate, share stories, and revel in the collective achievement of making Chicken Run 2024 a phenomenal event.
