We’re honoured to welcome Christl Hughes MBE as a new Trustee of Architects Benevolent Society.
Christl brings a distinguished legal and charitable background, having been admitted as a solicitor in 1980 and working in litigation for 30 years. She is a former Chair of both the Association of Women Solicitors, London and the national Association of Women Solicitors, where she championed gender equality and professional support for women in law.
Beyond her legal career, Christl has made a profound impact in the charity sector. She served for nine years as Trustee and Secretary of the Gender Identity Research & Education Society (GIRES), representing the gender reassignment protected characteristic on the Crown Prosecution Service Community Accountability Forum.
Christl is also a former Chair of the Board of The Solicitors Charity, and has held leadership roles with the Leicestershire Law Society and Leicestershire Medico-Legal Society—where she made history as the first woman to serve twice as President in 170 years.
In recognition of her lifelong commitment to equality and charitable service, Christl was awarded an MBE in 2020.
We’re delighted to have Christl join our Board, bringing her deep experience, insight, and passion for justice and wellbeing in professional communities.
